Global hotel technology giant, STAAH, today unveiled the list of distribution channels that brought the highest booking revenue to hotels in 2022. Major players Booking.com, Agoda and Traveloka top the global list at positions one, two and three respectively.


Coming out of the pandemic, STAAH Booking Engine maintained it’s position in the top 10 online booking channels for hoteliers across regions.

Airbnb continues to perform as a popular choice as more traditional hotel businesses adopting the channel over recent years, signifying the continued convergence of the hotel and short-term rental industries.

Regionally, Booking.com and direct bookings via STAAH were at the top spots for Australia and New Zealand, followed by Expedia. Not unsurprisingly, GoMMT continues to maintain a stronghold at the top spot in India, with Booking.com and Agoda at positions two and three.

The relevance of regional online channels in bookings is clearly visible, particularly in countries with reduced international travel in the last few years. Traveloka, Tiket and MG Holidays are among the top 10 Malaysian channels with Ctrip and Hotelbeds making it to the top list in the Philippines. In the UK, along with Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia and Airbnb, and Mr & Mrs Smith were popular booking platforms.

The presence of wholesalers such as leading bedbank hotelbeds in the top 10 channels shows the importance of these channels in a property’s distribution mix.

“The pandemic has evolved travellers’ booking behaviours and preferences. Our data indicates accommodation providers across the board are leveraging a combination of traditional and new channels to attract guests for a more holistic and dynamic distribution, guest booking and revenue strategy,” says Tony Howlett, CEO of STAAH Ltd.

STAAH data also shows that hotels are more attracted to direct bookings as an increasing number of travelers make hotel websites a part of their booking journey.

“By leveraging STAAH’s dynamic pricing and inventory management features and combining with attractive incentives, our partners have been able to grow bookings through their websites (direct bookings),” says Tony.

“Expanded metasearch strategies, including an important integration with Google Free Booking Links, has further helped fuel the growth of direct bookings.”

With hundreds of distribution channels available, it can be challenging for properties to choose the right channel mix for optimal exposure across different regions and target audiences.  “Our data is available to help accommodation providers make insightful choices on what combination of channels (global, region, local and niche) could be most impactful for their distribution strategy,” adds Tony.

JeanYong Pittion – Director of Operations

JeanYong Pittion has taken up the prestigious position of Director of Operations, while Carmine Pecoraro has stepped into his previous role of Director of Food and Beverages. Finally, Chef Jose Sanchez has joined the property in Carmine’s former post as Executive Chef.  

Drawing upon his lengthy experience and valuable expertise, JeanYong aims to drive and motivate his teams and inspire them to reach new levels of success. 

Having worked across the world in highly-regarded properties as far as London, Paris, Hong Kong, Macau, Jakarta and the French Riviera, his time as Director of Food and Beverage at Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers saw him increase the property’s F&B revenue by 60% in just one year, secure multiple awards for the hotel, and gain its position as host of the MENA’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards. 

Rewarded for his great achievements with his well deserved promotion to Director of Operations, the driven and committed leader will now pour all his priceless insights, flawless organisational talents and exceptional people skills into ensuring total guest satisfaction across every element of the hotel.

Responsible for maintaining the hotel’s position as one of the finest destinations in the region, he looks forward to relishing every challenge and learning experience that comes with his new position. 

He is now responsible for ensuring that every department exceeds their revenue and guest satisfaction targets, and he is already working on short and long-term strategies that will take the hotel to new levels of success.

Carmine Pecoraro – Director of Food and Beverages

Meanwhile, the fact that Carmine Pecoraro has already been promoted after just over a year at Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers, is testament to his incredible skills, hard work and natural talent. 

The South African/Italian is now responsible for opening every new outlet, organising staff training for all team members, and managing the day-to-day operations of all 13 of the hotel’s award-winning restaurants. This includes Japanese restaurant Tori No Su, Arabic restaurant Li Beirut, Italian poolside escape Sole, the iconic Ray’s Grill and Ray’s Bar, and the much loved Nahaam Saturday brunch.

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, his unrelenting passion, commitment, and dedication made him the ideal professional to fill the role that JeanYoung left behind. As Director of Food and Beverages of Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers, he will use his hands-on leadership approach to mentor and guide his teams, and help each individual reach their full potential.  

Taking on the most senior position in the hotel’s vast food and beverage department with ease, Carmine is now responsible for ensuring that the outlets continue to be recognised with various prestigious industry awards, and positive customer reviews. 

Jose Sanchez – Executive Chef

Finally, Chef Carmine leaves his former role in very capable hands of Jose Sanchez. As Executive Chef, Jose will be responsible for managing all 120 chefs across the property, hiring for the 13 kitchens, initiating special events and campaigns, and leading any large-scale catering activations. Alongside this, he will continuously develop the bespoke menus of each distinctly different venue, and bring his own distinctive personality and style to the cuisine.

Born in Mexico, his 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry started at the Crowne Plaza Holiday Inn in Mexico City. After this he worked across multiple luxury five-star hotels, including positions in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, Guam, Philadelphia and Ethiopia. Now, he is thrilled to bring his skills to Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers.  

A results-focused and efficient leader, he has a natural ability to charm and satisfy guests, and also inspire and motivate those who work around him. 

During his first few months in his role, he will make it his priority to get to know all the regular guests by name, and connect with his team so that he can help and uplift them wherever possible.
